Michael O’Leary, CEO of Ryanair, has called for restrictions on alcohol sales at airports.
Speaking to The Times, O’Leary criticized the serving of alcohol from early morning hours at airports, arguing that it negatively affects flight operations.
He stated that Ryanair is forced to divert flights almost daily due to intoxicated or aggressive passengers. As a solution, O’Leary proposed limiting alcohol sales at airports to a maximum of two drinks per passenger, with the restriction monitored through boarding passes.
Ryanair had previously announced in 2025 that passengers removed from flights due to inappropriate behavior would face a €500 penalty. The airline also periodically restricts alcohol sales on certain flights and routes.
O’Leary argued that while airlines are trying to act responsibly, airports that profit from alcohol sales should also take responsibility for the issue.
